If you’re counting your calories, you may want to avoid watching Hollywood action movies.

If you’re counting your calories, you may want to avoid watching Hollywood action movies.

A study shows that snacking can as much as double when viewing one.

Researchers gathered about 100 undergraduate student participants and split them into three groups.

One section watched a 20-minute segment of the action film ‘The Island’. Another was exposed to the same visuals, but the sound was cut.

For the third group a segment from the interview program ‘The Charlie Rose Show’ was played.

All were given an ample supply of snacks ranging from cookies to carrots.

The researchers weighed the foods before and after the screenings and found that those who watched the movie with sound ate almost twice as much as those who watched the interview.

Calorie consumption also increased by 65 percent.

The group that saw the clip without audio fared a little better, but still devoured a significant amount more than the Charlie Rose audience.

Researchers plan to investigate the matter further to determine which aspects of the genre most influence consumption.

In the meantime, they suggest limiting the quantity of snacks one makes available while watching fast-paced films.
