The scientific name of this bird is Pericrocotus flammeus. It is the size of a Bulbul and is about 20 centimeters long.
This bird lives in deciduous, mixed and evergreen forests, in the plains and hills. The range stretches from SW peninsular India all the way down to Sri Lanka.
These birds are brightly coloured. The male is bright red and is also known as Raja and the female is bright yellow and is known as Rani, in Hindi.
The pair is known as Raja Rani together because they are always together and fly around in pairs or small groups of pairs. Also, Raja means King and Rani means Queen in Hindi.
