ISS Astronauts Had The Best View Of Supermoon

Supermoons are an annual spectacle and occur when the moon travels closer to Earth than usual.

People around the world head outdoors to catch a glimpse and snap some pictures, but chances are none of their images will be able to match the ones taken from space.

Cosmonaut Oleg Artemyev shared some of the photos of the August event he took from the International Space Station.

His series of shots show the brilliant yellow celestial body as it set over the Earth’s arc.

As it dips behind our planet, the orb shifts in color from canary to glowing white.

The pictures were posted to Artemyev’s Twitter account and he titled the series “the supermoon moonset.”

His images were taken before the sight became visible to those living on the planet.

While the opportunity to score a similarly fabulous vantage point probably won’t present itself to most in the next month, the chance to see another supermoon will.

The third and final lunar event of the year is expected to occur in early September.
