Everyone has their own take on a perfect marriage partner.

A Mexican fishing town’s mayor recently got married to a crocodile. The ceremony, which was held at the city hall in San Pedro Huamelula, was a symbolic one that’s part of tradition.

Prior to the ceremony, the wedding party took the so-called bride for a walk through town. After the nuptials, Mayor Joel Vasquez Rojas danced with the crocodile.

Local fisherman think the croc is a princess.

As the seemingly odd couple tied the knot, the mayor said “It's my wish to marry the young princess.” The crocodile fittingly wore white to the event.

Right after the ceremony, everyone referred to the croc as Rojas’ wife. One resident commented “As young people, this means a lot. It's the greatest treasure our ancestors have left us."
