01:30And back on Easy Street for us.
01:37Did you get the option on that property?
01:39Sure, but I still don't understand how you're going to palm a ghost town off on the public.
01:44They're getting a break.
01:45I'm selling on the future of Gold River.
01:47With the coming of power and water, the desert will bloom.
01:50Land values will go sky high.
01:52All right, all right.
01:53Save the taffy for the suckers.
01:55What am I supposed to do?
01:56Get out to that little garden spot and open an office.
01:59I'll round up the prospects, collect the down payments, and ship them out to you.
02:03And I take them for the rest.
02:29The man from Music Mountain, a carefree buckaroo, he travels along singing a song all day through.
02:52The man from Music Mountain would rather sing than eat.
02:57And in the old day, he happens your way, life is sweet.
03:02You will recognize him by his old guitar.
03:06The song on his lips reaches your heart wherever you are.
03:11The man from Music Mountain, a carefree buckaroo, he rambles and rhymes all of the time just for you.
03:20I've traveled by his side for years.
03:22We love the Golden West.
03:25He loves to ride and work all day.
03:27Yes, sir, and I love the rest.
03:29They say that travel broadens one, they may be right at that.
03:33But it's not only broadened me, it's really knocked me flat.
03:38The man from Music Mountain, a carefree buckaroo, he travels along singing a song all day through.
03:47The man from Music Mountain, a vocal vagabond, I love a brunette unless I'm set with a blond.
03:56When he starts to whistle, the girls in the town just gather round, they think that it's me.
04:05The man from Music Mountain, a carefree buckaroo, he rambles and rhymes all of the time just for you.
04:15Hi there, Gene.
04:16Hello there, Vody.
04:17You boys have a nice trip?
04:19Well, being a nursemaid to a bunch of cows ain't my idea of a vacation.
04:23Say, it looks like you've got a one-man real estate boomer on here.
04:25What's it all about?
04:26Well, two city fellers came down here a couple of weeks back and offered to take this property off my hands.
04:31What for?
04:32For $2,000.
04:34First thing I'd done was buy me a new skypiece.
04:37Put me back 50 bucks.
04:39What are they going to do with all this junk around here?
04:41Oh, they got some crazy idea about bringing folks from the city to settle here.
04:45Well, crazy's right.
04:47Who'd want to live in a town that's been dead for 20 years?
04:49That's me.
04:51Well, I'm glad you struck it rich.
04:52We'll be seeing you.
04:56♪
05:19Anybody hurt?
05:20Sorry to disappoint you, but we're still living.
05:24What do you think this is, a speedway?
05:26You might have run us down.
05:27Oh, it's too bad I didn't.
05:28Is that so?
05:29Don't you think it would save time if you'd just help us out of the ditch?
05:34Yeah.
05:35Maybe it would.
05:36Get your oaks on this bus, boys.
05:38Let's get it out.
05:39All right.
05:39Yes, sir.
05:41Kind of cute.
05:42Yeah.
05:43No.
05:45Uh, pardon me.
05:46Are you going up to the ghost town?
05:48No, we're going to Gold River.
05:50Well, that's the same place.
05:52Of course, it ain't none of my business, but what you going up there for?
05:55Oh, my friend and I are going to open a beauty salon.
05:58Well, now fancy a couple of girls in the liquor business.
06:01We're ready.
06:03♪
06:08Okay, take it away.
06:11Thanks, boys.
06:23Gene, I sure feel sorry for them people.
06:25Yeah, they're in for a tough jolt.
06:33Hello, boys.
06:34How are you?
06:35All right.
06:36How are you, George?
06:37Good.
06:38Remember Buddy?
06:39Sure.
06:40How are you, young fella?
06:41Hello.
06:42Boy, you sure growed up a lot since I seen you last.
06:44What are you doing down this neck of the woods?
06:46I'm down here to settle.
06:47Sold my ranch down south and bought a town lot in Gold River.
06:50What for?
06:51I thought you was doing all right down south.
06:53We're going to do better and all right when the power lines are brought in from Boulder Dam.
06:56Ain't you heard about it?
06:58No, we've been away.
06:59Oh, you fellas ought to get in on this.
07:01With every lot you buy, you get 50 shares in the Betsy Lee Mine.
07:04Community project.
07:06Yeah, but the Betsy Lee Mine's all worked out.
07:08Oh, surface diggings, maybe.
07:10We're going to work it with hydraulics when the water's piped in.
07:13Going to clean up.
07:14Well, maybe so, but I think I'll stick to cow punching.
07:17That's up to you.
07:18So long, fellas.
07:19Bye.
07:26So that's how they're roping them in.
07:28Gene, what's a hydraulic?
07:30Don't you know?
07:31Mm.
07:32Well, that's all right.
07:34Don't you know?
07:35Mm.
07:36Well, that's a shovel with a handle on both ends.
07:39Oh.
08:01Ready!
08:04That team's running away.
08:05Come on, boys.
08:26Look out, Grandpa!
08:28All right, sonny.
08:29Whoa, there he is.
08:59Whoa, there he is.
09:29Wrecking them done for, Gene.
09:31Couldn't let loose of their eggs.
09:33Take it easy.
09:34Buddy's all alone now.
09:36No folks but me.
09:38Promise you'll look after him.
09:41Grandpa!
09:42Grandpa!
09:46You gotta brace up, buddy.
09:49Your grandpa would want you to.
09:51That's right, buddy.
09:53Ow!
09:59What can I do for you, sir?
10:01Are you the manager?
10:02No, but I'd be very glad to serve you.
10:04Well, I want to talk to the head man.
10:06Yes, but Mr. Scanlon is busy.
10:08Did you say Scanlon?
10:09Yes.
10:10That's all I want to know.
10:18Up to your old tricks again there, Scanlon.
10:21Ah, Andre, what do you want?
10:23I came after the money you took from George Harmon in that Gold River deal.
10:26What's that got to do with you?
10:29George Harmon's dead.
10:30I've just been appointed his grandson's legal guardian.
10:33I see.
10:35But why do you expect me to return the money?
10:37Because I've checked up on the Boulder Dam situation
10:40and they have no intention of running the land into the Gold River District.
10:43You could have been misinformed.
10:45I don't think so.
10:46The point is you sold property in a town that's been dead for 20 years
10:50based on the guarantee that water and power would bring it back to life.
10:53Why take that attitude?
10:54Personally, I consider this project an excellent investment.
10:57Well, I don't.
10:58And if you refuse to give back the money, I'll expose you to every investor in Gold River.
11:02The answer is still no.
11:04These people won't take your word against mine.
11:07Well, we'll see about that.
11:10I sure do thank you, too.
11:12What are you doing here?
11:13Well, hello, Gene.
11:14Look at what I bought myself.
11:16A lot in Gold River.
11:17And the man was so nice, he threw in a hunk of the Betsy Lee mine to boot.
11:21You what?
11:22I'm a property owner.
11:23I'm going to start my electric shop.
11:24You muttonhead.
11:25You got gypped.
11:27I didn't either.
11:28Star said it was the thing to do.
11:30Now you can give your pal Frog for reference.
11:34Come on.
11:57Boy, what a gadget.
11:59Just wait till that's full of chicken, ice cream, and pork chop, and good, cold watermelon.
12:07What are you going to use for ice?
12:09You don't need ice.
12:10This is a frigidinator.
12:11Ain't you never heard of them?
12:12You just plug them in.
12:13The housewife's friend.
12:15Frog has got to hand it to you.
12:16You're a genius.
12:17Now, ain't I?
12:18Yep.
12:19You're one up on Epson.
12:20Where's his shop?
12:23Now, how do you expect to run this junk without electricity?
12:26I'm going to have electricity.
12:27Sure you will if lightning strikes you.
12:30Now, this proves what I've said all along.
12:32The power lines aren't coming anywhere near Gold River.
12:36Ain't you the fellow that told me not to believe everything I read in the papers?
12:41Once a chump, always a chump.
12:43Oh, I'm a chump, am I?
12:44Well, just look at you.
12:47Look what I invented.
12:48What is it?
12:49That's electric curry corn.
12:51Well, that's no good without power.
12:53Well, I got power.
12:54I run it off a battery.
12:56Hey, turn that thing off!
12:58That's the curry comb, huh?
13:00Well, if you ask me, it'll make a better brand than that.
13:05You know what's wrong with him?
13:06He ain't got no vision.
13:11Did I do it the way you showed me?
13:13Yeah, I wanted to make you look big.
13:18Like this, see?
13:23A bullseye!
13:26I'm sorry, I didn't see you.
13:28Do you always go around trying to hang people?
13:30Yes. Oh, I mean, no.
13:31You see, I was just showing this youngster of mine how to throw a loop.
13:34Your youngster?
13:36I had no idea you were married.
13:38He ain't.
13:39No, you see, I just roped this maverick off the range.
13:42He did not. He doxed me.
13:45Oh, I see.
13:46Oh, what can we do for you?
13:47We have some very special offers today.
13:49We file your nails and spurs for the same price.
13:51Well, that's fine.
13:53I'll settle for a little information.
13:55How little?
13:56Well, how are you girls making out here?
13:58Oh, we can't complain.
13:59Oh, yes, we can.
14:01Pepsi.
14:02Well, the only customer we've had is Mrs. Rain-in-the-Face,
14:04and she paid off in beads.
14:06We can't expect much more than that.
14:08Oh, I'm sorry.
14:09I'm sorry.
14:10I'm sorry.
14:11I'm sorry.
14:12I'm sorry.
14:13I'm sorry.
14:15We can't expect much business until the power line's installed.
14:18Then things will start picking up.
14:20If it don't get here pretty quick,
14:21we'll be eating cold cream sandwiches.
14:26Hey, I didn't come in here for a manicure.
14:28I know, but I need the practice.
14:31So business is really bad, huh?
14:34Oh, we didn't have very much money to start with,
14:37and after paying for this property, we...
14:40Oh, you're not interested in our troubles.
14:42Oh, yes, I am.
14:44I'd really like to help you some way.
14:48I guess there's nothing anyone can do very much.
14:50Thank you very much.
15:00Somebody branded his heart with love,
15:05love, burning love.
15:11Somebody's lost on the trail of love,
15:17love, burning love.
15:22He'll be a pickin' paddles off of daisies too.
15:27He'll go loco as a calf out under the moon.
15:33Ha ha ha ha ha!
15:35Ha ha ha ha!
15:38Love, burning love.
15:47Very, very cute.
15:48Ha ha ha ha ha!
15:53All right, you long-eared cowards.
15:56Now it's my turn.
15:57Huh?
15:58Come back here and sit down.
15:59Oh, no, gee.
16:00I said sit down.
16:01Oh, that ain't fair.
16:02Come on back.
16:08Oh, boy, customers.
16:10Yeah, and they won't pay off with beads either.
16:12And this will cost you a dollar a pole, funny boy.
16:15How much?
16:16A dollar a pole.
16:17It won't eat.
16:18I ain't got them.
16:19Yes, it will.
16:22All right, girls, get in the works.
16:25You look so handsome with wavy hair.
16:43Love, burning love.
16:49Those dainty fingers need lots of care.
16:54Love, burning love.
17:00Faces tough as leather don't amount to much.
17:05Now you have the kind of skin a girl loves to touch.
17:11Love makes a coyote look like a dove.
17:17Love, burning love.
17:27Goodbye, boys.
17:31How'd they hear you?
17:32Yeah, they're waiting inside for you.
17:41You understand what I want you to do?
17:42Yep.
17:43You want us to clip this guy off his wings.
17:45Right.
17:46He's been doing nothing for the past three weeks, but stir up trouble.
17:48I want him stopped, and I want it done fast.
17:50Between Hank and me, he won't know what hit him.
17:55Go on out the back way.
17:59I just can't afford to keep on giving credit to you folks.
18:02Yes, I know.
18:03You've been very patient.
18:05But conditions are bound to improve shortly.
18:07Then we'll be able to pay up everything.
18:12Well, I reckon it won't hurt me to grub stake you for a while longer.
18:16Here's your order.
18:17I had it all ready for you.
18:20And don't worry about your money.
18:21I won't.
18:27Poor devils.
18:28I feel sorry for them, too.
18:31But it seems like they'd be better off if they'd go back where they come from.
18:34Maybe they haven't got no place to go or the bus fare to get back on.
18:37Well, that's right, but there sure ain't nothing for them here.
18:40Have you had to grub stake very many?
18:42About half the town.
18:44Well, figure out what they owe you and I'll pay it.
18:47Keep on giving them credit.
18:48All right.
18:49If you've got a hankering to go broke, it's a nice way to do it.
18:52Maybe I can figure out something before that happens.
18:56Fill this order, will you?
19:00So, this is where you are.
19:03Listen, son.
19:04You better hightail back to the ranch before Larry and Steve catches up with you.
19:08How do they look since they got their beauty treatment?
19:10They're just madder than a hen on a hot rock and they're a land for your scalp.
19:15Boaty, give me a pair of gloves.
19:18Say, you better come on back to the ranch with me and give up this gadget store idea of yours.
19:22Oh, you think so, huh?
19:24Not me.
19:25I ain't gonna be a cowhand the rest of my life.
19:27Well, at least you eat regular.
19:29Understand you bought an interest in the Betsy Lee Mine, Frog.
19:33What are they gonna use it for?
19:34Dumpin' old razor blades?
19:36No, they ain't.
19:38We're gonna reopen it and we're gonna have hydraulics and everything when we gets power.
19:42Looks like city folks ain't the only suckers.
19:45That mine was worked out 20 years ago.
19:47You better take Gene's advice and go back to nursing cows.
19:51Say, I'll pick up that order later.
19:52Come on, Frog, we wanna see you a minute.
19:59What's up, Gene?
20:01I haven't time to explain now, but I'll meet you at the Betsy Lee Mine in an hour.
20:08Where are you going?
20:11I'm going over to the Betsy Lee Mine.
20:13Wait a minute, I'll get my coin and go with you.
20:15No, now you stay here and be a good boy.
20:17I got business to tend to with Gene.
20:38This is as good a place as any.
20:40Let him have it.
20:47Looks like you got him.
20:49Come on, let's go make sure.
21:08You can't get away, we'll get you.
21:11Where's Luke?
21:14Where's our officer?
21:19Come on.
21:23Those ain't gonna last too long, boys.
21:25Let us down.
21:27Let us down.
21:29Let us down.
21:31Let us down.
21:33Let us down.
21:35Let us down.
21:37Let us down.
21:39Let us down.
22:07Let us down.
22:17Gosh, where did you get it?
22:19My dad brought it down from the Klondike.
22:21It's been in the safe at the ranch ever since.
22:23What you gonna do with it?
22:25Well, that's where you come in.
22:27Me?
22:29Yeah, I want you to ride over to Quartzville.
22:37Hey, bartender.
22:39Set him up, will you?
22:41I'm buying drinks.
22:43Hey, everybody.
22:45I'm buying drinks.
22:47Come on up to the bar.
22:49What'll you have?
22:51Well, just give them anything they want, but I'll take some sarsaparilla.
22:53Say, I'm paying off in gold dust.
22:55Gene got no skills, have he?
22:57Don't mind, do you?
22:59No.
23:01No.
23:03No.
23:06Come on, bartender, hurry up.
23:08Hurry up, bartender.
23:16Hey, you're spilling it.
23:18Well, don't worry about that.
23:20There's plenty more where this came from.
23:22Here's how, folks.
23:24Drink up, boy.
23:26We're celebrating today.
23:28Looks like you got something to celebrate about, Frog.
23:30This pay dirt's been mighty scarce around here lately.
23:32Mind telling us how you come by it?
23:34I don't want to start no gold rush.
23:36Ain't you got no cold sarsaparilla?
23:38Sure.
23:44Come on, folks, drink up there.
23:56Now, listen, I don't want you mugs coming here.
23:58Never mind now. Did you get him?
24:00Not so fast, Scanlon.
24:03I found out something you might like to know about.
24:05Yeah, you remember that goofy pal of Audrey's?
24:07Milhouse?
24:09That's the baby.
24:11He's over across the street at the bar, and he's got a lot of gold dust.
24:13Gold dust?
24:15Where'd he get it?
24:17He ain't saying.
24:19We'll mighty soon find out.
24:21Come on, Brady.
24:23A fifteen man on a dead man's chest
24:25who went to the song of old
24:27And maybe a coward was fooling around
24:29and could sing the song quite bold
24:32Now the song lacks rhyme and tune
24:34Fine rhythm is the thing
24:36And tell them does the party end
24:38before somebody sings
24:40Now, you know me.
24:42Yeah, I know you.
24:44I know you.
24:46Yeah, you know me.
24:48All nice people
24:50Now, I'm all right.
24:52Yeah, you're all right.
24:54You're a good fella.
24:56I'm a good fella.
24:58All nice people
25:00We live in a land of the free
25:02Well, give me another.
25:04Give him another.
25:06Make it a couple.
25:08Make it three.
25:10All nice people
25:22Boy, they sure are getting so they can make this
25:24That's really good, ain't they?
25:26Huh? Set them up, boys.
25:29How are you, Milhouse?
25:31Doing a little celebrating?
25:33Boy, have you got it figured out
25:35And look at that
25:37And there's just scads everywhere that come from
25:39I wish you could see it
25:41We'd like to.
25:43Where did you get it?
25:45That's my little secret.
25:47I ain't gonna tell
25:49Hey, you, bartender
25:51That's just what I figured out
25:53He's trying to get me liquored up
25:55So I'll tell where I got this gold
25:57But I ain't gonna tell
25:59And I'm a getting madder all the time
26:01And I ain't gonna buy no more drinks for you folks
26:03I'm a going home, back to the hill
26:05Right now
26:09Better keep him in sight
26:27It can't be any gold here
26:29I checked on it
26:31He's just dumb enough to strike a vein everybody else missed
26:33It's been done before
26:36It can't be any gold here
26:38I checked on it
26:40He's just dumb enough to strike a vein everybody else missed

27:36Let me out of here
28:00It's gold, alright
28:02What did I tell ya?
28:04back this mine what are you going to give them for an excuse we'll find one come on
28:07we got to step on it.
28:22Come on I'm going to be scanning the town and tell the folks about the gold yeah.
28:28Hey hey buddy buddy come back here come back here buddy.
28:32Buddy come back here come back here buddy come back here buddy stop come back here.
28:43I'm pretty sure Scanlon's going to try to buy back the Gold River property if it makes you an offer grab it we certainly will yes but if Mr. Scanlon wants it back why shouldn't he let him have it nothing will make this town go only the power lines and they're not coming in here maybe this article will convince you.
29:02Not within miles so Scanlon pulled a fast one certainly looks like it you'll be here in a minute now and I don't want to be seen with you it might spoil everything I'll see all of you later.
29:18Yeah they come now.
29:31Good afternoon ladies.
29:37And how's business practically invisible all that's too bad I'm afraid I have some rather discouraging news for you to executives of the power company have changed their minds about running a line into Gold River.
29:48That means we're not going to have power in life I'm afraid not well then we may as well give this town back to the rattlesnakes a great disappointment to us all I feel more or less responsible having sold you this property.
29:59So to prove my good faith I'm willing to take it off your hands.
30:03You mean you'll give us our money back at a slight discount of course I've had to pay salaries and expenses you know well I think you're acting very fairly Mr Scanlon.
30:12I have my business reputation to consider now if you let Mr Brady have your deed he'll draw up the transfer and we can settle everything immediately I'll go get it it's in the safe I'll go and speak to the others.
30:29Oh.
30:33There's no then I bet they may not don't pay any attention to him he doesn't know what he's saying I do too I saw Mr Scanlon out to mine they locked up against those some of the or why do you keep quiet you know I tried to stop him but he got away from.
30:47No wonder you tried to buy us out I'll admit that I did but I knew the water wasn't coming in and you people couldn't work the mind I was merely trying to help you you lied about the gold you're probably lying about the water I can explain to give me a chance.
30:59And you you're in with Scanlon you're both crooks Helen you've got us all wrong oh no.
31:07Guys I'm sorry I did wrong.
31:10That's all right buddy you didn't realize what you were doing.
31:29I.
31:44Gene it's good to be right smart of a town I did yeah but for how long sooner or later these people are going to find out the truth.
32:00Well I still don't see why Miss Higgins couldn't come to town for her permanent well you see more and he's a Mike delicate she don't get around what.
32:10Well the customer the customer even if she does live in the next county now you sit there wait while I find Miranda.
32:17I'm beginning to care for the way in your hair and there's something about your smile.
32:30And there's something about your smile.
32:38I'm beginning to care for the clothes you wear and your eyes have a twinkle worthwhile.
32:52I'm beginning to care for the thing you do I'm seeing the sweetness I love.
33:08For. I'm beginning to see you.
33:20I guess I'm beginning to.
33:28Very very clever oh thank you oh not your song I mean that plot of yours and Bodie's to get me out here.
33:38I suppose Miss Miranda is just a minute I know she's here you want to see her well I was led to believe she wanted a permanent well I'll call her if you want me to.
33:48Hey Miranda.
33:52You are looking for me Mr Dean yeah this lady says she came out to give you a permanent way.
33:57To. Quit your fooling down what I need but this will of mine is a deep permanent.
34:07Hey wait a minute.
34:13Hey where you going back to town long walk you better let Bodie drive you I wouldn't trust him you've got to leave me Helen that gold stripe was a gag told me all that before I suppose this present boom.
34:27Was just a mirage that's exactly what it is it'll fade out as soon as these people find out there's no gold I know I know you and Scanlon are working together if he was out to cheat you would you grub stake all these months a pipe down.
34:41You and a lot of other folks at the start of it hadn't been for Jean if you had the brains of a jackrabbit young woman you'd know that he's on your side you pay attention to what he says if he tells you there's no gold there ain't I never thought there was.
34:57One sorry. I don't know what to say forget it the thing to do now is to get back to my name is Scanlon Jeff Jada but how I said I'm an interest in the mind.
35:11Do you think we could work it right you'll be in town for the celebration tomorrow night so you need outside capital to buy mining equipment that's right and we're willing to hand over a substantial block of stock to the party who puts up the money how substantial.
35:26Forty nine percent.
35:29How much capital would you require all about fifty thousand dollars good heavens man machinery won't cost anywhere near that no but the original stockholders are entitled to a profit on their money well I just wanted to give you first chance sorry to bother just a minute all right let's talk this over now can't you get the stockholders to cut that price a little well I don't know after all they're letting you in on something pretty nice I appreciate
35:56that and I want to slice but sound them out anyway I'll be over tomorrow maybe we can work out a deal all right I hope so but gentlemen.
36:10I wonder why or three came to you with this proposition.
36:14Yeah.
36:17Don't take from the boys to run over during the celebration and check up on that mine again find out just how much gold there is there I always like to know what I am buying.
36:25You.
36:43It gives me great pleasure to present to you Mr Harkness and Mr Manning representatives of the southwestern power and water company.
36:51And also to inform you that the contract guaranteeing light and power to Gold River have just been signed.
37:02Gentlemen say a few words I thank you my friends I shall eat Mr Martin suggestion and say only a few words or I know that you're all eagerly awaiting the real event of the day when the closing of this switch will bring peace to the world.
37:20Power by direct line from Boulder.
37:26I feel sure that you all agree with me that the honor of closing this switch should go to the man who's made all this possible.
37:34A man whose foresight and industry put Gold River on the map.
37:39Through the rediscovery of gold in the Betsy Lee mine I refer to that outstanding citizen Mr.
37:48Mr.
37:51Mr Frog Millhouse.
37:57Want to be sure you go on.

46:13He's dead.
46:16Come on.
46:20Come on.
46:26There ain't any sign of gold or any trace of recent digging.
46:29Looks like Audrey's pulling another fast one.
46:43Get him up.
46:45Get your guns, Scroggs.
46:50Get him.
47:13Say, this is gold quartz.
47:15That explosion must have opened a vein.
47:17Look like good stuff?
47:18Yeah.
47:19That's gold ore.
47:21Keep those birds from getting out of here.
47:23I gotta tell Scanlon about this.
47:27We gotta get out of here some way and stop that sale.
47:30Yeah, maybe we ain't got time.
47:32We'll have to go to Quartzville to record it.
47:34Well, that tunnel right over there opens above the mine shaft.
47:37Keep down low and let's try to get out.
47:50We must have got them.
48:02They're not here.
48:03They must have taken that tunnel.
48:19They must have taken that tunnel.
48:50There's plenty of gold in that mine.
48:52And it was on the level.
48:53Sure. They thought they were selling you a pony.

52:00Looks all right to me.
52:01Then we'll sign them.
52:06Right here.
52:10Have you signed yet?
52:11No.
52:12Good.

52:37Come on.
52:38Here it is.
52:45You'll have to come over to the office, Gene, and sign a formal complaint.
52:47All right.
52:48I'll be over in a few minutes.
52:51Oh, boy, some fun, huh?
52:53Yes, but what's it all about?
52:55I had to stop you from signing those papers.
