A 17-year-old girl involved in a car accident in Michigan didn’t have time to blink when the airbags went off, and a canvas imprint was left on one of her eyes.

When she arrived at the hospital she mentioned her vision was blurred and that she felt pain and a burning sensation.

Doctors used a special dye and a blue light to examine for damages and found that the surface texture of the bag had imprinted telltale marks on her right cornea and left a few scratches on the left one.

They also discovered some bleeding, but it proved to be minor and brief.

The scratches also healed quickly and in two weeks’ time she was back to enjoying her usual 20/20 vision.

Experts have cited the case as an example of the dangers airbags can pose, particularly to the delicate eye area.

Also pointed out was the fact that the patient didn’t even have time to blink, which shows how quickly they can deploy.

One doctor noted a scratched cornea is by far the lesser of the two evils, as the absence of airbags can result in significantly more serious injuries.
