The reason why she lost the crown is because of an age clause in pageant rules. According to a state ruling, all contestants must be between the ages of 17-24 through the whole year.

Longacre says she and her local directors checked with the executive board last year to make sure she was eligible to compete in the Miss America contest. Longacre provided all the necessary documents including her birth certificate and social security card.

All the paperwork shows she is 24 years old but somehow the board didn’t catch the fact she’ll be turning 25 in October, which prevents her from competing. Executives didn’t realize the error until after she was already deemed the Miss Delaware winner.

They informed Longacre she would lose her crown and will not be able to participate in the Miss America Pageant in September.

Now, the prizes, crown and scholarship money have been handed over to another woman, Brittany Lewis.

Longacre is speaking to an attorney and may pursue legal action.
