A new android that looks like an adolescent recently took on the role of anchorman. Female in appearance, it’s called ‘Kodomoroid’, which is a combination of the Japanese word ‘kodomo’ or child, and android.

The ‘Kodomoroid’ robot delivered news of an earthquake and an FBI raid to reporters in Tokyo. It looks so much like a living person, a triple or quadruple take is needed to determine the android is not a real human.

While posing as an anchorman, ‘Kodomoroid’ was not only able to successfully deliver the news, but it also cracked jokes.

The robot was accompanied by another android called ‘Otonaroid’ which is the grown-up appearing adult version. Both androids will be stationed at Tokyo's National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation, where they will greet visitors and collect data on how humans interact with robots.

Robotics professor Hiroshi Ishiguro created both androids. He remarked “We will have more and more robots in our lives in the future. … Technical advances mean robots look and act more human, and that makes us think about our worth.”
