Five words were offered that a bachelor must fear
'Where is this relationship going? ' was made so clear.
The awkward silence that surely must follow
As lies and half truths are so hard to swallow.

Two people start at one romantic point in time
What causes their directions to sway so out of line?
The man shrugs his shoulders with a boyish grin
Hoping she'll allow a draw if not a home win.

But the nights for her are better long and lonely
Than to have this passion cut off slowly and coldly.
Emotions for her are as warm as Jane Austen's bed
For him they cause unmanageable thoughts in his head.

So here at the crossroads of another romantic path
He tries to calculate a move, but she has done the math.
How many times has he believed that she really understood?
Now she shows him a forest instead of a Familiar wood.

Finally, he opens the front door to the cool night air
Her tears trickle down, but does he really care?
He offers the 'friend's suggestion' to her distaste
As she sees that her Five words have gone to waste!
