Nationwide, an average of 41,000 blood donations are needed each and every day to meet the needs of patients undergoing treatment for various accidents and illnesses. In other words, someone in the U.S. needs blood every two seconds. With no substitute for human blood, those in need must rely on the kindness of volunteer donors.
Did you know? - Nearly 5 million Americans require a blood transfusion each year. - Adults have approximately 10 pints of blood in their bodies. - The one pint of blood that is usually given during a donation can save the lives of up to three people.
Ever since 100 units of blood saved her life after a near-fatal car accident in 2001, supermodel Niki Taylor has been dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of giving blood. In order to thank donors and inspire action about this cause, she has joined forces with Nexcare Bandages and the American Red Cross for the sixth annual Nexcare give program. This nationwide initiative highlights the importance of giving blood during the week leading up to the World Health Organization’s World Blood Donor Day on Saturday June 14th. To help spread the word and inspire Americans with a message of hope, they have released a collection of limited-edition Nexcare give Bandages inspired by this year’s theme: The Art of Giving. Featuring designs inspired by 5 artistic movements, each bandage can be worn as a beautiful, heroic badge of honor and a symbol of pride.
In this interview, Niki Taylor discusses the ongoing importance of giving back by donating blood, sharing her own personal story and explaining how blood donors helped save her when a car accident nearly took her life in 2001. Finally, she discusses how she’s working with the American Red Cross and Nexcare Bandages to thank those who give and incite others to roll up a sleeve and get involved.
