The Monster (1925)

Yet another silent era "mystery-thriller" (with heavy doses of comic relief) adapted from a successful Broadway stageplay, finds a would-be detective, his romantic rival, and the object of their affections (otherwise known as "the damsel in distress") in the proverbial asylum taken over by the inmates--and the principal culprit is former inmate Dr. Ziska (Lon Chaney), who has most peculiar experiments on his unhinged mind. Though a lesser role compared to some of his classic portrayals, Chaney applies himself to it with gusto.

[No musical accompaniment on this one, and the title cards are sometimes terribly dim. Apologies, Couch Pumpkins!]
