Girls education is given priority in Malawi. With early girl child marriages due to, among others, poverty and orphanhood as a result of the HIV/Aids, UNICEF in partnership with other like-minded institutions is promoting female teachers to pursue their studies. The UN agency is paying fees and providing other necessary amenities to such teachers in a bid to lure them to work in the rural setting after completing their studies. This is expected to reduce cases of early child marriages and in the process encourage a girl-child to work hard in school and become a useful citizen.
