An incredibly rare violin that hasn’t been seen for decades will soon be auctioned off. It’s estimated to bring up to 10 million dollars.

Part of the reason it’s expected to sell for so much is that it was crafted by legendary violin maker Antonio Stradivari in 1731.

Another is it was originally owned by renowned concert violinist and teacher Rodolphe Kreutzer - hence the instrument’s name, the Kreutzer Stradivarius.

So, where has it been for the last 25 years? Well, apparently it’s been sitting in a closet.

The violin’s most recent owner is heiress Huguette Clark, who was given the violin by her parents in 1920.

As she was notably reclusive, much of her personal life remains a mystery, but throughout her seemingly troubled life she did amass quite a collection of fabulous items.

About 400 of them are being auctioned off, but the one getting the serious attention is the Kreutzer Stradivarius.

Christie’s, the house in charge of its sale, has run tests on the instrument and confirmed that it’s authentic.
