Creatures living at the Smithsonian National Zoological Park get to take part in some pretty cool activities. Recently, some resident otters experienced the joy of playing the keyboard.

The musical instrument was situated right outside the otter’s enclosure. That allowed the curious creatures to stick their paws through the cage and tickle the ivories.

The less adventurous animals preferred to stay towards the back of the cage and watch their companions perform. The National Zoo captured the otters exploring the keyboard and most of them seemed to enjoy the tunes, with a few in particular really getting into it.

A caption on the zoo’s Facebook page notes “Move over, Mozart! Asian small-clawed otter paws fly across the keyboard as part of their #ZooEnrichment.”

According to zookeepers, the goal of the keyboard installation was to engage the otters’ ‘sight, touch, and hearing senses’ and given their obvious interest, the idea was a successful one.
