A Florida fisherman, Dustin Richter along with a few friends found themselves tugging for hours at Boynton Beach Inlet after hooking a massive sawfish.

The fish latched on to Richter’s hook at about midnight. He and his pals kept trying to reel in the creature for approximately 2 hours after that.

Once the friends finally had it under control, they discovered the sawfish weighed about 500 pounds and measured 11 feet in length.

Sawfish possess a long snout with edged teeth protruding around the sides that resemble a saw.

They certainly possess a scary appearance, but fortunately they rarely go after humans unless provoked.

As for Richter and his pals, they were eventually able to pull the sawfish to shore. They took some photos and a video before letting it go.

Reflecting on the rare catch, Richter remarked “It’s just one of those prehistoric-looking animals. If you see them you’re lucky to see them and if you catch them you’re even luckier.”
