Violent scenes in Syria's Deraa province.

Local TV showed the wounded and dying lying on the streets of the southern city.

They had come here to support the President Bashar al-Assad at an election rally but rebels shelled a tent, that was used for election campaigning.

This was the result. More than 20 people died in the mortar fire and the death toll is expected to rise as many were seriously wounded.

Syrians are due to vote on 3rd June in an election, that looks certain to give President Bashar another seven year term.

But the vote has been branded a sham by the West.

It's just one attack of many in Syria.
