At least 50 pro-Assad security men die in double Deraa suicide attack

Smoke rises over the Syrian city of Deraa after a double suicide attack on a military camp that killed at least 50 pro-Assad security officers.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says members of an al Qaeda-inspired group were behind the bombings.

Violence like this has prompted hundreds of thousands of residents to flee to neighboring countries.

The United Nations says Friday recorded one of the largest refugee exoduses since the conflict began 20 months ago.

Around 9,000 people ended up in Turkish camps in just 24 hours, with Jordan and Lebanon each receiving another 1,000 Syrians feeling the violence.

Tens of thousands more have moved into Turkish towns and villages along the border.

Ankara admits it's struggling to house and feed the spiraling number of refugees and has called on the international community to end the conflict in Syria.
