Turkey: grief and rage in Soma over mining tragedy

Residents of the devastated Turkish mining town of Soma, where 301 people died in the country’s worst ever industrial disaster, are desperate for answers.
An explosion on Tuesday, May 13 sent deadly carbon monoxide through the coal mine.
The funerals for the victims have already begun, but the cause of the mine tragedy is not yet known.
The Turkish government has said a “technical, administrative and legal” investigation will be launched.
Rescued miner Guler told reporters that his father was working at the bottom of the mine when the explosion happened.
“He [father]worked here for five years, then retired. But after three months he came back to the mine,” Guler said.
“I would have preferred an office job, but I couldn’t study because I wanted to support my family and my father,” he added.
