A ceremony has been held in Paris to mark the 69th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day.

French President Francois Hollande joined the country’s prime minister and defence minister at the Arc de Triomphe, to commemorate the end of World War II and the surrender of Nazi forces – on the 8th of May 1945.

Hollande laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

He then greeted military personnel, as they paid their own tributes under a fluttering French flag.
