Old Boat Washes Ashore in Washington, Believed to Be From 2011 Tsunami

An old, filthy vegetation covered boat recently washed up in the state of Washington. Now, speculation is spreading that it might have been swept out to sea during the 2011 tsunami that hit Japan.

The Mead family from Ocean Shores were among the first to spot it. An officer from the Ocean Shores Police Department on scene was quick to spot Asian lettering or possibly symbols on the side of it, leading him to believe it may have come from Japan.
Now, speculation is spreading that it might have been swept ashore during the 2011 tsunami that hit the country.
Grays Harbor County Emergency Management staffer, Charles Wallace commented “There’s a very large amount of vegetation growth so it’s been in the water quite a long time, and that’s what we’ve seen in the past with things that have washed up from overseas.”
Washington State’s Department of Ecology has obtained samples of the vegetation and shells for testing to determine if the matter came from the local area or somewhere else.
If it’s proved the boat was indeed swept away because of the devastating tsunami, it’s just one of several items that have surfaced along the shores of Washington. Numerous other vessels have appeared on the sands, along with personal belongings from Japanese families including a child’s doll and shoes.
