Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge has run non-stop at the Maratha Mandir Cinema for more than 18 years now with packed houses the entire time.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge – or in English, The Brave Heart Will Take the Bride – is not only one of Bollywood’s most famous romantic comedies, but also the longest-running movie in all of Indian cinema. The film has successfully run non-stop at the Maratha Mandir Cinema in India for more than 18 years now.

Abbreviated as DDLJ, the Hindi language film was released at the Mumbai theatre in October of 1995 and stars a popular Bollywood couple: Kajol and Shahrukh Khan. Opening to glowig reviews and huge crowds worldwide, DDLJ brought in its first year about $18 million in India and $2.5 million overseas.

In 1996, it won 10 Filmfare Awards, earning second place for the most Filmfare Awards going to a single movie.

The Maratha Mandir Cinema has no known plans to discontinue screening DDLJ. So for now, people can continue to enjoy on the big screen the international tale of young love amid families with different commitments to traditional Indian values.
