Ailing Blackberry sells Canadian property

Struggling smartphone maker Blackberry has announced its to sell off large chunks of real estate in Canada in a bid to balance the books.

Blackberry said the deal would see some three million square feet of office space and vacant land sold.

The buyer and price has not been disclosed.

The Canadian firm has said it will lease back some parts of its world headquarters based in Waterloo.

Despite cutting thousands of jobs to make itself more competitive, the money losing phone maker continues to struggle against the iPhone and Android-based rivals.
