When it comes to old stuff, it can be tough to distinguish between items that could be worth a fortune to things that are plain junk. Luckily, before melting it down a scrap metal dealer realized an antique egg he picked up at a market is worth over 33 million dollars.

The Fabergé egg is described as an Imperial Easter Egg that was confiscated during the Russian Revolution by the Bolsheviks. It was designed in 1887 by Carl Fabergé for Tsar Alexander III.

The egg later ended up in the hands of an antique vendor in the US. About 10 years ago, the scrap dealer saw the piece and bought it for a little over 13 grand.

He knew nothing of the egg’s history and true value. The dealer was going to sell it for a small profit but the buyer soon turned him down, believing the price had been exaggerated.

The egg rested in the scrap dealer’s kitchen for years. In 2012, he took to Google to research it and soon learned it is worth far more than what he paid.

The valuable antique was sold by the anonymous blue collar dealer, who is said to be ‘stunned’ by his newly acquired wealth.
