Various "Latitudes 1973-74" 1974 US Private Psych Folk
released by students and staff of Montgomery County Community College in 1974. Gets a good review in the Acid Archives book on North American vinyl rarities. Very limited pressing...perhaps a few hundred at most and this one has a fold-out poster with student writings: poems, short stories. Third album in a series of yearly college projects and for my ears this is the best of them. Side A starts off with a band named Puddleduck who pull off a killer progressive/psych-rock tune "Tower Of Baradur" that features some superb electric guitar on overdrive and a very good rock vocalist...best track on the album and I know one of the guitarists Jim Bontcue. This tune is followed by a prog-rocker with British influence, an acid folk-rocker and a garage pop/rock tune. Side B starts off with an original old-timey sounding folk tune from The Ambler Ramblers similar to what The Dillards were doing. Guitar/banjo picker Jamie Watson went on to the folk/bluegrass circuit. Next is an acoustic folk tune followed by a jazz trio and finishing with a pleasant instrumental played on three acoustic guitars. Pretty solid effort from college kids. Not as sought after as the "Take Flight" LP from the series but for me a much better album.
