The United States Navy undoubtedly has some serious weapons in their lineup. Last year, authorities announced the development of a laser gun that can pin point and take down airborne vehicles and boats with an infrared laser.

Well, that piece is moving out of the testing phase and it will soon be a reality. In the summer of 2014, the Navy plans to deploy its very first futuristic laser on the USS Ponce.

Although the technology behind the weapon is impressive, Navy officials are more thrilled about the money the laser will save. Compared to bombs and missiles, the newest weapon will operate for chump change.

The laser can be fired nonstop and operated by a lone sailor. Said a Naval Sea Systems Command spokesman ‘It fundamentally changes the way we fight.’

The laser gun will be able to take down what authorities refer to as ‘asymmetrical threats’ which include speed boats and aerial drones.

The Navy’s laser can fry electronics and burn straight though an enemy target. It also can’t be detected by the naked human eye.
