Occasionally, lottery winnings fall into the hands of those who desperately need it. A 55-year-old man in Hungary is now about $2.8 million richer after winning the lottery.

What makes the story so unique is that the male wasn’t staying in a comfortable and modest home prior to the big win. Instead he was living on the streets.

In September of last year, the man spent his spare coins on a lottery ticket. He had been on his way to an alcoholics meeting when the purchase was made.

Reflecting on the day that changed his life, he stated “I had only picked six numbers and the female shop assistant reminded me that I needed to pick a seventh. I told her to make it 24 – it doesn't matter, anyway.”

Clearly, he was very wrong. The first thing he did when collecting the windfall was pay off his monetary obligations. He then purchased homes for his three children and even paid off the debts of his family members.

The man recently donated a good sum of cash to a homeless hostel. He also plans to set up a foundation for abused women and recovering addicts.
