Four people arrested in connection with Hoffman drugs death

Four people have been arrested in connection with drugs found at the New York home of film star Seymour Hoffman.

Police found Hoffman dead in his bathroom with a syringe in his arm on Sunday. They recovered plastic bags containing a substance believed to be heroin. The actor had a history of substance abuse.

The four arrests came during a raid on building in the Chinatown area of Manhattan after police found the same heroin believed to have killed the 46-year-old there.

According to Drug Enforcement Administration officials, an increase in heroin use is related to a spike in abuse of prescription opiate-based painkillers like oxycodone.

Many people who misuse oxy develop a tolerance for the pills. They often find heroin easier and cheaper to buy than black market prescription medication.

Hoffman appeared in blockbusters such as “Twister” and “The Hunger Games” series. He was working on the final Hunger Games installment at the time of his death.

A memorial service for the actor is planned for later this month.
