Woman Dies After Scarf Gets Caught in Metro Escalator

A woman in Montreal tragically passed away after her scarf got entangled in a moving staircase. At this time police haven’t determined if the lady became ill or if it was just a very rare, unfortunate accident.

Escalators can pose a serious danger even though many of us don't think about it while riding them. A woman in Montreal tragically passed away after her scarf got entangled in a moving staircase at the Fabre Metro station.

A local police authority elaborated stating:

At this time police haven’t determined if the lady became ill while riding the escalator or if it was just a very rare, unfortunate accident. Witnesses attempted to help the 48-year-old woman.

They called emergency operators and tried pulling her free, as she laid unconscious at the bottom of the stairs. The woman was pronounced dead shortly after the arrival of first responders.

It was noted that according to building code regulation, they should have an automatic shutdown if something becomes trapped inside.

An investigation is ongoing into the circumstances surrounding her death.
