Vial of Pope John Paul II's Blood Stolen
Pope John II's blood was stolen on a recent Saturday from a church located in the Abruzzo region in central Italy.
Jewelry, electronics and cold hard cash….those are the typical goodies that attract thieves. But an unknown suspect or suspects in Italy recently targeted something very different, going for a vial of blood.
It belonged to Pope John II, who passed away in 2005. The blood was stolen on a recent Saturday from a church located in the Abruzzo region in central Italy.
It had been kept in a circular glass case inside the building. Police and K9 dogs were called in to assist. They launched a search in the local area but were not immediately able to find anything of importance related to the crime.
Only three vials of John Paul II’s blood are in existence today. Due to its rarity and the popularity of the former, now deceased Pope, the relics are considered to have extremely high religious value.
Italian police currently suspect the theft was commissioned, as there were numerous other valuables in the church that were left untouched. Troublingly, it’s thought the Pope’s blood may be used for Satanic rituals because the vial would be exceptionally hard to sell.
