Sadly two people were killed after falling into the Chicago River.

According to reports, they had been attempting to recover a dropped cell phone prior to their deaths. It started around midnight on a recent Monday.

A 26-year-old man, Ken Hoang had dropped his phone along the riverwalk, although it remains unclear whether it landed by the water or in it. He hurriedly went to look for it, hoping to retrieve it in working order.

Two of his companions, a 21-year-old woman and 23-year-old man followed him in an effort to help him and make sure he was all right. All three ended up in the freezing water.

Rescue workers were soon called to the scene. Both men were eventually pulled from the river, but Hoang did not survive. The other man is said to be in stable condition.

Rescuers were not immediately able to locate the female, as the visibility in the water was virtually non-existent however the search for her is ongoing. At the time of this report, it’s suspected she also perished in the river.
