Talented artists can create beautiful pieces of art using the most unexpected items. One Cologne based artist foregoes the paint and brushes, preferring to use his own hands and imagination along with simplie scraps of paper.

Simon Schubert specializes in making images of mansion-like homes, simply by folding the pieces of paper. The stark white sheets are not enhanced by any other color.

The interior of elaborate homes are depicted, with sprawling staircases or long hallways, giving the completed artworks a ghostly quality. While no figure, human or otherwise can be seen, there is a sense of something lurking in the background right out of the viewers line of vision, a shadow of sorts in all the works.

Schubert seems to put am emphasis on the small details. Carved arches, planks on flooring, cuts in molding and floor patterns can easily be seen in the paper exhibits. Given that Schubert uses no other graphic aid, aside from his positive and negative folding techniques, one way to get differing three-dimensionality sights, is to view the displays in varying lighting.
