Chaparrastique Volcano Erupts in Huge Ash Plume

Thousands of residents were evacuated and transport disrupted on December 29 as Chaparrastique volcano, near San Miguel, erupted. The volcano sent a cloud of ash and smoke five miles into the sky. Flights were cancelled as the ash spread out over the surrounding area. Credit: Carlos Gomez
