Richard Sturm, who was lost for 5 days in the dense woods of southern Washington state, was found only to discover he was suffering from a brain tumor.

It was perhaps the effects of the growth that led to his misdirection and subsequent ordeal in the first place.

He had left his daughters house one evening and was on his way home when he ended up 17 miles off course and with an empty gas tank.

Stranded in the woods, he kept himself alive by eating a Snickers bar and using the ice on the hood of his truck for hydration.

Five days after he ended up there he was discovered by a hunter.

Sturm was sent to the hospital, and while being treated for dehydration and hypothermia his daughter insisted he be tested for other potential problems.

That’s when doctors discovered the tumor.

His daughter is viewing the whole incident as a “blessing in disguise”.

Not only is she thankful that he was found, she’s grateful that the events resulted in their father seeing a doctor, something he otherwise would not have done.

She now hopes that the tumor can be treated successfully and safely.
