Choosing between a family life and a successful career is usually not an easy decision. Oprah Winfrey is one highly accomplished woman who does not have any children and up until recently, it remained a mystery as to why.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she reflected on that choice. The story appeared in the magazine’s Women in Entertainment Power 100 issue.
59-year-old Oprah detailed her childhood and how her best friend always dreamed of having kids even from a young age, going so far as to writing down potential names of her future children while in school.
As a seventh grader, Oprah’s dream, however, included making a difference in the world, hoping to become a female version of Martin Luther King. Oprah determinedly pursued her career, continuously making goals and having children just never made it on the priority list.
In the interview, she stated “If I had kids, my kids would hate me. They would have ended up on the equivalent of the Oprah show talking about me; because something in my life would have had to suffer and it would've probably been them."
