Reading Horoscopes Can Trigger Bad Behavior

A bad horoscope can guarantee a bad day, and not just because that’s what the powers have planned for you.

A bad horoscope can guarantee a bad day, and not just because that’s what the powers have planned for you.

According to a study performed by scientists from the University of South Carolina and Johns Hopkins University, the negative predictions drive many to perform impetuous and indulgent acts.

For the experiment, participants were given a pretty dismal horoscope and then asked if they’d prefer to go to a party or stay home and get some cleaning done.

In those scenarios, going to the party was seen as the devil-may-care option and housekeeping as the principled one.

When the results were tabulated, those who had said they believed that they were the captains of their own fate were most likely to go out and live it up.

Among the group that saw their fate as already being sealed, housework won out.

The scientists believe that the free will crowd spent so much energy grappling over the possibility of saving their day from impending doom they’d simply been worn down.

By the time they were presented with a temptation, they didn’t have the energy to resist it.
