What would you do if your neighborhood was full of bats?

The town of Charters Towers in Queensland, Australia has begun to take extreme measures to rid itself of the 80 thousand bats that plague it.

In their latest effort to make the colony go away they created a cacophony of horns, guns, fireworks, and helicopters.

They plan to do this every morning and night for ten days.

So far, it seems to be working as the first round of blasts forced thousands of bats to take to the sky and flee to calmer environments.

Most citizens were overjoyed to see them go as their presence has made many aspects of daily life unbearable.

Several complain about the smell they create as well as the mess their droppings make of just about everything.

One resident said parking a car on the street has become impossible.

Critics of the method say that as there are no measures in place to keep them from returning, the evacuation efforts are futile. In the meantime, they’ll likely just become another town’s problem.

Other suggestions for bat management included finding a way to turn them into a tourist attraction.
