Sadly, the dog that won 2007’s World's Ugliest Dog Contest passed away.

Ugly pets…sure they exist, but to most human eyes, those seemingly unattractive features mesh together forming an impossibly cute creature.
Sadly, the 2007 winner of the World's Ugliest Dog Contest recently passed away.

Named Elwood, he was a Chinese Crested and Chihuahua mix. After winning the title, Elwood gained a fan base from all over the world.

According to his owner, Karen Quigley, he would walk around proud, completely oblivious to his contest winning less than beautiful appearance. What made Elwood so unique was a grey patch of fur that started right between his eyes and his long tongue which forever hung out his mouth.

According to Quigley, Elwood didn’t have any teeth on the left side so there was no barrier stopping his tongue from drooping downwards. Although the pooch gained notoriety for being “ugly”, he was really anything but and his fans never forgot about his signature face.

The 8-year-old dog died quickly and unexpectedly on Thanksgiving. Quigley stated “The best part was he did not suffer, he was in my arms and with me. I couldn’t be more proud that people who haven’t met him loved him.”
