Now that Tina Turner is officially Swiss, she has formally relinquished her citizenship in the United States.

Administrators in Switzerland announced they’d accepted her application for citizenship in January, and the legendary performer took the country’s nationality oath in April.

Just recently, she filed paperwork with the US Embassy in Bern that acknowledges she’s taken on an official status elsewhere and as a result expects her US citizenship to be relinquished.

What Turner has done is significantly different thanrenouncing her status, which is a complicated process that can involve penalties and taxes.

The final outcome of both routes, however, is the same.

Turner moved to Zurich nearly 20 years ago to be with German music producer Erwin Bach.

The couple is now married and lives near a lake in a house called Chateau Algonquin.

Shortly after her desire to become a Swiss citizen was announced, Turner said, “I am very happy in Switzerland and I feel at home here. I could not imagine a better place to live.”

As for her decision to file the relinquishment paperwork, she explained that other than to visit family she has no plans to return to the US.
