Drunken Man Survives Jump in Pier Thanks to Beer

A male almost died after he and a companion got intoxicated and opted to jump from the Herne Bay pier, located in Kent, United Kingdom, into brutally cold ocean water.

Drinking far too much alcohol can easily make someone do outrageous, ultimately stupid things. In one recent report, however, too much beer led one man to make the wrong decision, but the alcoholic content in his bloodstream also helped save his life.

The male almost died after he and a companion got intoxicated and opted to jump from the Herne Bay pier, located in Kent, United Kingdom, into brutally cold ocean water. After landing in the sea, the two men struggled for about 45 minutes, trying to swim their way back to shore.

Eventually emergency workers were contacted to assist them. Both survived the ordeal, but one of the males had fallen unconscious.

A responding rescuer stated “I went in to get the second man because I didn’t know how long it would take for the lifeboat to arrive. He had had eight cans of beer. The paramedics said that it probably kept him alive, because his body had slowed down so much that it might have helped him.”

It appears the vast amounts of beer helped to regulate his body temperature while in the frigid water.
