It’s common for divorce battles to get nasty. A man named Earl Ray Jones recently admitted in divorce court that he tossed his life savings in a dumpster located behind a motel in Colorado Springs.

According to Jones’ elaborate story, he took all the money which was in his bank and retirement accounts – half a million dollars in total – and converted the cash into gold this past May. The sole purpose of the crazy act was to prevent his wife, who Jones was married to for 25 years, from getting a cent out of their divorce.

Jones even produced bank records to back up his tale, as court officials, including his wife’s attorney, had a hard time believing anyone would simply toss away their fortune. The paperwork does in fact show that his money was converted to gold by a dealer in Phoenix, Arizona, specializing in precious metals.

52-year-old Jones was court ordered to pay his wife $3,000 per month, but she has yet to receive a dime. The trash from the dumpster is sent to a local landfill that takes in about 30 thousand tons of trash on a monthly basis.

That means finding the now compacted and dirt covered gold is nearly impossible.
