Bird Specialist Smuggled 25 Eggs in Underwear

A Swiss male, considered to be a bird specialist, was arrested in 2010 by customs authorities at the Zurich airport. The Swiss authorities released a report noting that the man was busted for concealing over two dozen bird eggs in his underwear.
The Swiss custom authorities recently released a report involving a man who traveled across the globe with the eggs of endangered birds. The Swiss male, considered to be a bird specialist, was arrested in 2010 by customs authorities at the Zurich airport.
He was busted for concealing over two dozen bird eggs in his underwear. The eggs came from endangered species and rare parrots which are protected under international law.
The details of the case were not immediately released because an investigation was launched to find out who the man’s buyers were and if he had further connections in the bird egg trading ring.
Investigators later determined the unidentified man smuggled and subsequently sold 150 eggs to buyers in Indonesia, Mexico and Thailand.The value of the eggs was listed at about $72,000.
The bird trader also had an aviary containing several hundred birds, some of which were endangered.
The vice president of the American Bird Conservancy stated “One hundred fifty eggs--that's quite a serious case. It could significantly impact the global populations of certain endangered species, depending upon the birds involved.”
