Man Survives After Shooting Himself in Heart With Nail Gun

58-year-old Eugene Rakow is now at home recovering following an incident that could have cost him his life.
It’s unbelievable how incredibly lucky some people are. A carpenter in St. Bonifacius, Minnesota is one example.
58-year-old Eugene Rakow is now at home recovering following an incident that could have cost him his life. The self-employed carpenter had been building a deck for a neighbor on a recent Friday when he accidentally shot himself in the heart with a nail gun.
The metal piece missed his coronary artery by only millimeters. Rakow was immediately sent to the hospital for surgery.
The doctor behind the procedure stated “This nail went through the front and the back of his heart, barely missing critical structures. I’m very pleased his post-operative courts has been so uncomplicated.”
Two stitches have now sewn up his heart. All the efforts were successful and Rakow made it home in time to celebrate his daughter’s 20th birthday.
Medical authorities gave him the nail as a souvenir, reminding him of how lucky he is to be alive. Rakow will be out of work for the next several months though.
