Often, it's hard to predict how one may act in a fit of rage.

One man in Glendale Heights, Illinois was recently sentenced to 90 days behind bars after he stabbed his pet bird during a domestic argument.

40-year-old David Hritz will also spend two years on probation following his release due to the conviction for aggravated animal cruelty and domestic battery. He was originally taken into police custody on August 25th of last year.

Hritz had gotten into a fight with his female roommate and eventually hit the woman with his fists. In a complete rage, Hritz grabbed his pet bird and flung it against the wall during the fight. He then picked up a knife and stabbed the bird to death.

The state attorney pointed out statistics on domestic violence and said of the defendant “Mr. Hritz's anger got the best of him. Because Mr. Hritz could not control his anger, he must spend the next 90 days behind bars.”

As an extra part of the punishment, he must also submit to counseling as deemed necessary and may not have any pets.
