Live chickens draw huge crowds at farm fairs and are a big hit especially with the kids. However, it's a different story with strays.

A family in Pasco, Washington was shocked after opening their door and discovering a bunch of stray chickens wandering around in their backyard.

Hazel Batchelor was the one who first noticed the chickens. She claimed to be slightly scared as the creatures kept coming back , looking for shelter in her own home.

Unfortunately for Hazel, animal control officers claimed there was nothing they could do to get rid of the chickens, as there is no place to house them. They left Hazel’s yard about a day after roaming her property, but they didn’t get too far.

The chickens somehow managed to climb over a fence and take over her neighbor, Don Boss's yard.

One of the chickens slept in Don's tree and ate his garden tomatoes. The city is currently working to find some kind of solution to the problem, but there is currently no ordinance to pick farm animals up if they become strays, so long as they are not a direct hazard to the public.
