When it comes to eating while driving, some foods hold a distinct advantage over others.

For example, as satisfying as a plate of nachos may be while sitting down and watching a game on TV, behind the wheel of a car they’re just awkward, messy, and irritating.

So, what are the perfect driver’s seat noshes?

According to a survey conducted by Insure.com there are many factors that go into determining that.

The food should only require one hand to eat it, not be sloppy or have ingredients that ooze, and, of course, tasty and satisfying.

Candy bars were determined to best meet all of the required categories, and garnered the top spot.

French fries were a really close second, but lost by 1 percent of the vote because of their lingering aroma.

Other foods that scored well were potato chips, doughnuts, and - for the health fanatics - fresh fruit.

Insure.com road-tested several edibles themselves and discovered that dry cereal, aside from the potential choking hazard, made a good driving snack.

Hot dogs also performed favorably as long as one either went without mustard or wore a yellow shirt.
