Connecticut Police Forced to Kill Chicken-Attacking Monitor Lizard

Police in Connecticut were forced to kill a lizard after it attacked chickens. The large monitor lizard was getting very aggressive and hurting the chickens inside of a coop.

Who would you call if a wild animal was attacking a domestic animal?

In recent report, police in Connecticut were forced to kill a lizard after it attacked chickens. In the mid-afternoon, a concerned female resident in Ledyard called the police to inform them that she witnessed what she thought was an alligator in her chicken coop.

Officers arrived and did find a reptile inside of the coop but it was actually a large monitor lizard that was getting very aggressive and attacking the chickens.

According to law enforcement, numerous sightings of a monitor lizard have been reported by locals. Most frequently, the creature was seen in the eastern part of Ledyard.

Cops believe the lizard that was killed is the same one that residents had spotted. A statement issued by the department pertaining to the chicken incident noted “Due to the further risk to livestock, domestic animals and human life, officers were forced to use a firearm to mitigate the threat”.

Police also pointed out that Monitor lizards are illegal to own in the state and they can be very dangerous.
