French hunger striker asks to stop bullfight

A French animal-rights activist who has been on hunger strike for three weeks in a protest against bullfighting has asked François Hollande to issue a presidential reprieve to six animals who are due to face the toreadors next week. Christophe Leprêtre, the head of animal rights group Animavie, has had nothing but water since July 31, and now hopes to save a group of bulls scheduled to take part in a corrida in the southwestern town of Mimizan.
