Police Flooded With 911 Calls After Cable Outage

Connecticut police authorities were left frustrated and angry after a flood of 911 calls came in regarding a Cablevision outage. The callers had level of panic in their voices.
At the time of the outage, ESPN was showing the Yankees-Red Sox baseball game. An episode of the hit drama on AMC called Breaking Bad was airing and HBO’s True Blood was also on.
The Fairfield police department was certainly not happy with residents calling emergency operators to vent their frustration.
Law enforcement authorities released a notice on their Facebook page noting ‘We are receiving numerous 911 calls regarding the Cablevison outage. This is neither an emergency or a police related concern. Please direct your inquiries to Cablevision. 911 should only be called for Life Threatening Emergencies ONLY.’
The department also made it clear that misusing the system could result in an arrest. Following the incident, Cablevision announced that there had been a commercial power outage at a nearby facility.
A statement released from the company at a little after 11 at night, announced the service had been restored to customers.
