Mowing the lawn is a routine task during the warm summer months. Sadly, a man is now dead after a tragic mower accident.

42-year-old Terry Verdier was pronounced dead on a recent Saturday night. Police were dispatched to the male victim’s home located in Smithfield, Maryland a little after 8 P.M.

Verdier had been using a zero-turn style mower. While plowing through grass on a hillside located on the man’s property, the mower rolled over and horrifically pinned Verdier underneath it.

According to Maryland State Police, Verdier was unable to wriggle free and remained beneath the mower for an undetermined amount of time. Verdier was quickly transported to a nearby medical center.

A short time later, medical staff pronounced him dead. Mowing the lawn is more dangerous than you might think.

According to American Academy of Pediatrics, over 250,000 people were treated for mower related injuries in 2010. Mowing hills is especially problematic. It is recommended that people mow up and down a slope to prevent a tip over when using a riding mower.
