Mayor Becomes Target of Air Conditioner Thieves

Air conditioning units have gone missing from numerous local homes in Ecorse, Michigan. Even the mayor, Darcel Brown has been victimized a few times.
Police are looking for thieves who’ve been stealing air conditioning units from numerous homes in Ecorse, Michigan.
Even the mayor, Darcel Brown has been victimized multiple times.
It was about 2:30 AM when Brown awoke to a strange sound.
Thieves had just finished cutting through hoses in Brown’s home AC. The mayor stated “I was asleep Sunday night when I heard a knocking sound. I looked outside and there was a truck with my air conditioning unit in the back. I called the police, and they were there very quickly, but the truck had already taken off.”
Brown decided to get in his own vehicle and join in to locate the culprit. Eventually officers and Brown found the truck and the air conditioner in an alley.
The most recent theft makes it the third time someone has tried to swipe a unit from Brown in the past 6 months. There has been an increase in the number of thefts in the area from the past year. Local residents have been urged to cover units with metal cages and heavy locks.
